Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Three words, if they honestly did it for marketing reason, whoever came up with that needs a chainsaw shoved up his or her ass. Technically 1974 was called "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" 5 words ;D

You get my point lol.
Anyhow, I liked this movie quite a bit, the extra family members was....odd but I rolled with it. I liked Yeager as Leatherface, and Leatherface seemed pretty confused like he normally would be. I'd give it a 3 out of 5.
Also my theater seemed pretty crowded actually, a lot of people from what i saw seemed to enjoy it quite a lot.

I am listening to you guys talk about the remake and I'll admit, you've convinced me to give this another look. One thing I wanna address is * SPOILERS* Leatherface isn't a " hero" in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Leatherface helps Heather/Edith because she's family. Ever since the original you can say that Leatherface has always defended his family and vice versa, hence why he killed the mayor. Edith was family to him, and also the only other Saywer left, so I didn't have an issue with it.

Yea but I dont think we ever received lines like"Do your thing cuz!" That goes far beyond what transpires in all the prior movies concerning us rooting for him. Just because you defend your family it doesnt make you a hero. It's when people who are supposed to be sane/normal co-sign what youre doing and treat it like a positive thing ie Sherrif/Edith.
No normal person ever rooted Leatherface on before this film.

Can you imagine not being allowed to sell that house and have to live with Leatherface? What sort of social life will you have?

He didn't start out as a hero. But by the end we are definitely supposed to think of him as one. I loved that. It was mentioned in the retrospective and I agree. This pulled a Devil's Rejects flip flop. It was a two fold flip flop. Leatherface goes from the antagonist who is the monster killing the protagonists friends. To the protagonist himself saving his cousin from the more evil townsfolk and mayor. The second part of the flip is only a half flip. Heather the protagonist goes from being the hero of the film to being both. She comes to the antagonists aid, thus joining forces with LF and they both are considered the heroes in the end. It took the conventions of your average slasher/horror film and threw those conventions out the window. It's great to see something different like that. I'm happy to hear a sequel is likely. Because I really want to see one. It appears this film will be considered a moderate success. If so then that opens the studios up to the possibility of continuing the other franchises that have had remakes too. I really hope I can see this in the theater again. If not I look forward to seeing the extended release when it come to DVD/Bluray.

Yes. Someone dressed as him got sort of pushed/jumped out of the way when LF is chasing Heather. He even tried to say the "Would you like to play a game?" line but by the point he said game he was getting out of the way/being shoved out of the way so it trailed off. "Would you like to play a gaaaame?!" ;D I hear in the uncut version LF guts the guy dressed as Jigsaw with his chainsaw. I hope that's true. Because it will be cool to see Leatherface cutting down Jigsaw as a kind of reclaiming the title of king of the saw in horror.

This is the fourth direct sequel to the original. I don't see every franchise rushing to go back to the old series because it had a good opening weekend.

This is the fourth direct sequel to the original. I don't see every franchise rushing to go back to the old series because it had a good opening weekend. Studios don't look to the distant past when making business decisions. So they aren't going to care how many times this franchise has tried to make a sequel. If Hollywood is dependable in doing one thing, it's copying what's popular at the time. Otherwise they wouldn't run a concept into the ground the way they do. In the last decade they've seen torture porn become popular with Saw and then copy the hell out of it. Then they jumped on the found footage bandwagon after Paranormal Activity. So all I was saying is if this film does well maybe Hollywood would be more inclined to think of doing something similar with the other big horror franchises. I never said they were definitely going to do it, nor did I imply that. I said the word "possibility". So stop acting like I said it's a definite or even implying it would be. I would think as a person that acts like they hate remakes you'd want them to go back to their original continuities again. You told me in a PM I was taking this too personally. Well you are acting like it having a good opening weekend is offending you. Like it's almost hurting your feelings that the film is doing better than you predicted. With every positive mentioned you come back with a negative. Or try to put a negative spin on something positive. Because apparently in your world someone being happy in seeing the positives requires you to rain on their parade by posting the negatives. I love this franchise. I want it to do well. All I was taking personally or was bothering me to be more accurate, was the negative reviews before it even came out. Because I didn't want the critics to possibly hurt the films success before it had a chance. I hate when the critics predict a film is going to be bad without having seen it. When I love a franchise, I want a film in that franchise to do well so sequels are a possibility. If my wanting that is me taking it too personally then I guess I am. So LF did you watch it in 3D or 2D? It was my first time seeing a film in 3D at the theater. I liked it. Having nothing to compare it to I don't know if this was good 3D or not. It looked cool to me. It was surreal seeing the footage from the original film in 3D. I wouldn't mind seeing the entire original in converted 3D.

What did you think of his 2 new masks in this film? They definitely didn't look as real as the originals. But they didn't look as much like a make up studio creation as the mask in Part 2 or the Platinum Dunes films. All in all I loved them. I'm not sure which of the 2 I liked more. But I'm leaning towards the one he sewed to his face.

The first one reminded me of Thomas Hewitt, I thought both were just fine.

All I was saying was that the TCM franchise isn't exactly a poster child for continuity. Chances are that a lot of people who saw it weren't aware that it went all the way back to the original film after a remake was made (plus its prequel). Going by Twitter reactions, a bunch of people saw it to support Trey Songz.
I fully understand how much you love the franchise, as I used to be that dedicated to Romero's "Dead" series before he lost his mojo so to speak. It is good to find something that you can continue to support and be excited about. I don't hate all remakes either, as I am really pumped for the Evil Dead one, which looks incredible. Finally, a director is using practical effects.

Speaking of continuity, wasn't this movie suppose to be a direct sequel to the original? I have read a lot of bitching about the use of smart phones and such if it was? I was confused on that.
I'll see it eventually. No idea what I am most excited to see in the horror genre this year. I'll have to look up trailers

This is quite interesting, but the movie was a huge hit among the 18-25 female demographic. As I mentioned above, a certain hip-hop artist got people to show up, so was this the group that showed up for him the most?
