You can never just enjoy a movie, can you?

Nothing wrong with analyzing its success.

I'm thrilled that this movie is number #1 at the box office. I agree with Jeremy its because of Trey. There were less than ten people when I went and saw it and I can guarantee those other chicks weren't there to see it for Leatherface besides myself.

To be honest, I didn't know who the guy was until he was part of the movie.
I think we have all been guilty of going to see a movie just because one of your favorite celebrities was in it. I saw Dracula 2000 because Jeri Ryan was cast in it.

i totally understand that this dude is the reason most kids went to see it. Hey I guess thats why they hire these dudes... It just feels like everyone is stating that fact as a put down to the quality of the movie. Like I said on my show it was a 6.5 out of 10. I listed all my issues and praised it's strong points. I started a show so I wouldnt have to type it all lol
So if you wanna hear it you know where it is. All in all I appreciate the spirit of the movie. I thought it was a tad more on the direct to bluray side of movies. That's not exactly a bad thing though. I enjoyed Lost Boys 2 and 3. Hellraiser 9. Wrong Turn 5 was decent I guess. you get the point... not every direct to bluray is crap. Its just not on the level of TCM 2003 or things like that. I dont believe this movie is on that level. But I can see how TCM fans really enjoy themselves and belittling their opinions with unoriginal fact spouting is not a healthy way to add to a conversation. Box office numbers are one thing. But when you cant post one original thought it's time to hang up the key board if ya know what I mean. People can say a lot of things about me... but one thing they will never say is that Im unoriginal.

I don't see it at a put down at all, just a factual statement regarding why it was successful and why there will be a sequel...or six, if the story is true. The whole idea of being set on making six movies because of a good opening weekend seems a little excessive to me.
If you are a TCM fan and liked it because it was a horror movie featuring Leatherface, that is great! That is sure better than the people who probably goofed off during the movie when Mr. Songz wasn't in the scene. What it really shows is that the studio knew that no matter how good or bad the movie was, butts would be put in seats over gimmick casting.
At your screening, how did the audience react to it and what impression did you get when everyone filed out of the theater?

I view this as the H20 of TCM. Like H20, I enjoyed it quite a bit and there are issues with continuity but it didn't bug me. Though am I the only one who thought that they removed Jim Siedow as Drayton in the opening montage?

I had a great time watching this movie and it exceeded my expectations so at the end of the day that's all that really matters. I will give it a four out of five. Can't wait to preorder the DVD! Does anyone have thoughts on the age thing? I've been reading comments about the lead girl not looking like a 39 year old. Are you bothered by it or can you let it slide?

The only thing that sets the later parts of the film in 2012 is the use of the iPhones. Which wasn't a part of the early scripts. That was studio intervention. I guess because they think people couldn't relate to a film unless it was set in the immediate present. The original plan was to make it ambiguous. Where the audience wouldn't know for sure what year the later scenes were set in. Yes it doesn't work age wise if it's definitely 2012. But I honestly don't care. As for if Songz had anything to do with it's success. DUUUUUUUHHHH! Why the hell would they hire him otherwise? They could have hired a bazillion black actors out there for the part. They hired him to bring his fans in. It worked. Even without his fans this film would have had a good opening weekend. Maybe not as good. But it would have been good. I hope no one thinks Trey Songs is the sole reason this is doing well. He may be part of the reason but isn't the only reason. I was at a early viewing that wasn't locally advertised and there were a lot more than 10 people there. I don't know how many people can fit in the theater I was in. I don't know what an average theater holds. But mine was about half full. For a late night non advertised screening that's impressive. I'm a member of some groups on FB and saw a number of people during this weekend showing pics of waiting in line. Some said they had to go to a later showing because the theater was sold out to the showing they'd planned on. I have no doubt some of the teens in my theater were there due to Songz. But there were plenty there that were there for the film itself. They were having fun, laughing when they were supposed to and some of them screamed during the jump scares. I'm happy the film is doing well. The whys don't really matter to me. There will at the very least be a sequel. So I'm one happy TCM fan.

LF yes they removed Siedow. They kind of had to since they were going to be showing the Drayton character in new scenes. If they showed the old footage with Siedow then the new scenes with Moseley playing the part it wouldn't make any sense. So I understand the reasoning. I think he did an admirable job playing Drayton in the old and new scenes. I can't wait to see the extended version on DVD to see more scenes with him.

I thought Bill was awesome as Drayton, but the strangest thing I noticed is he looked kinda like Jason lee from Mallrats lol.

It's the teeth he was wearing. That's about all they could do to him to make him resemble Siedow. There was no way they were ever going to be able to make Moseley strongly resemble Siedow. Different height, bone structure etc. The only things they could do is gave him teeth that somewhat resembled Siedow's severe overbite and asked him to try and do an impression. I think he did a good job emulating Siedow while recreating the old footage. He did a fair job with the rest. But they cut his and the rest of the cast's scenes quite a bit from what I've heard. I'm looking forward to the extended edition to see how much more footage there is and how many more scenes there are.

I think they cut it because of time, but what bothers me is...what happened to that truck driver who hit Leatherface with the wrench at the end of part 1?

That is one of the scenes they cut. They did film footage of the truck driver's fate. It was just one of the scenes cut. Considering how many fans have asked about it both before the film came out and after I would assume that's one of the scenes that will be put back in for the extended edition.

I enjoy films like Friday the 13th part 8 and Halloween 3 and could care less about if they did poorly or whatever, I enjoy them because they are fun. Sure some of it's Nostalgia but so what? I don't let the fact that Part 8 had a lower budget or that Season Of The Witch was a bomb hinder my movie experience, hell it's a tradition for me to watch Halloween 3 every Halloween. If something fails, it automatically means it isn't good to you. You know how many times this past few days I have seen people bash Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D because of one reason or another? These people all sound a lot like you to be honest. I'm thrilled that we have something fresh in theaters rather than ANOTHER paranormal activity or Saw, it's the same way I felt watching Scream 4, I was just glad to see Ghostface on the big screen and I was glad to see Leatherface on screen as well.

I love Halloween III, hence my signature banner. It doesn't matter that it went over like a lead balloon back in 1982. It is my favorite sequel, as it didn't mess with the intentions of the original classic like the others. That is a topic for another thread though. Jason Takes Manhattan...well that is another story altogether.
Is it wrong of me that I don't just accept what is released? For example, I love George A. Romero and his zombie movies, but I really disliked his last two efforts. It was to the point that I wasn't glad that Survival Of The Dead came out. I would rather get nothing than a load of crap if that is all a franchise will put out.
I am a Halloween fan, but if the Weinstein's churned out crap, I would be hesitant to support it. The same goes for F13. Am I picky? Maybe, but that is just me.
